The 1st look at 'Mr. Peabody and Sherman'
The old Rocky & Bullwinkle cartoons were some of my favorites growing up. I loved how smart they were, with humor that was often way over my childish brain. As an adult I've come to appreciate it more, and was appropriately horrified at the live-action film with Robert De Niro. *shudders* What I liked about it most wasn't always the stuff involving the moose and his flying squirrel buddy, it was when we were lucky enough to get an episode of Peabody's Improbable History. It didn't happen nearly enough for my tastes, so last year's announcement that Dreamworks was putting together an animated adaptation had me dancing in the streets.
We're getting our first promo image from the film, and it looks like the geniuses at Dreamworks and Rob Minkoff(The Lion King) have put their visual muscle into making Mr. Peabody and Sherman look exactly as they should. Well, except for Sherman's buck teeth. Not sure why they added that except to make him look more inferior. Anyway, the cartoon was a brilliant way of teaching a kid something useful in a way they could totally understand. It centered Mr. Peabody, a genius who just so happens to be a talking dog. He takes a human boy named Sherman as his pet, and together they use the WABAC machine to travel back in time to great moments in history. The film deviates from that somewhat, in a way I'm not totally cool with, having the pair forced to fix the space/time continuum when Sherman uses the WABAC machine without permission.
Robert Downey Jr. was initially set to voice Peabody, but he was replaced by Ty Burrell(Modern Family), with Max Charles as the voice of Sherman. Mr. Peabody and Sherman will hit theaters on March 14th 2014.
