Cee-Lo Green to play a rapper in 'Can A Song Save Your Life?'

It's crazy to think just how far Cee-Lo Green has come considering where he started. The guy wasn't always who he is now, beginning his career in the mid 90s as simply Cee-Lo in the southern-based hip hop group, Goodie Mob. He was the most unique of the group by far, but nothing to indicate he'd become one of the most renowned musical artists in the world, forming Gnarls Barkley and now chairing NBC's The Voice. Dude has really come up.

Slowly but surely he's been inching his way into acting, lending his voice to a number of animated TV shows and the upcoming Hotel Transylvania, and we'll see him in just a couple of months as part of the star-studded Sparkle remake. Before the film opens, he'll already be completed with his next film, as Variety reports he's joined the cast of Can A Song Save Your Life? The music industry-set romance is directed by John Carney(Once) and produced by Judd Apatow, with Cee-Lo playing a successful rapper named Troublegum. So Cee-Lo's staying within his comfort zone a little bit with the role, but the film itself is a total departure from everything else he's been in before.

Keira Knightley plays a woman who moves to New York City with her boyfriend(Adam Levine) to pursue their musical careers, only to have him leave her to become a solo act. Mark Ruffalo plays the hard luck record producer who discovers her and they rebuild their lives together. Hailee Steinfeld and Catherine Keener co-star, with the film set to begin filming next week.
