Sure Shots: Jackie Chan; Kevin Hart; Ryan Reynolds
* For awhile in the late 90s and early 2000s, everybody wanted to team up with Jackie Chan on an action comedy. After finding success with the Shanghai Noon and Rush Hour buddy comedies, Chan would then go on to make a number of really terrible ones. Remember The Tuxedo? Chan is planning to produce and star in another action comedy, an English-language film to be written by Jay Longino. The story has Chan playing a detective sent to track down an American gambler who has skipped out on a casino debt. Sounds like a safe and harmless film where Chan shouldn't break any bones during the production. So much for that "retirement", right? [THR]
* Much like Melissa McCarthy last year, Kevin Hart has had a similar breakout after his hilarious turn in Think Like A Man. We know he'll be teaming up with Kevin James in Valet Guys, and now he'll lead a remake of the 1986 dramedy, About Last Night. The original film was directed by Ed Zwick and starred Rob Lowe, Demi Moore, Jim Belushi, and Elizabeth Perkins, and followed a couple who have a one-night stand and then start a turbulent relationship. Hart will take on the role originated by Belushi. There's no director attached yet, but the script is being written by Leslye Headland, who wrote and directed Bachelorette, which was a big hit coming out of Sundance. That film stars Kirsten Dunst, Isla Fisher, Rebel Wilson, and Lizzy Caplan. [THR]
* Last month we learned that Summit Entertainment had their sights set on Ryan Reynolds to be their Decapitator-in-Charge as the lead in their Highlander relaunch. For those who don't know, Highlander was a cheesy but memorable cult fave begun in 1986 about a race of immortals who must kill one another(by chopping off heads) in order to be the only one left and claim "The Prize". Today saw a flurry of stories claiming that Reynolds had been confirmed. It would have been a good move....if it were true. ThePlaylist spoke to someone close to the production, and they say nothing is a done deal yet. Reynolds is in talks, but he won't be stepping to the rather big shoes left behind by Christopher Lambert just yet.
