Trailer Time: 'Shadow Dancer', starring Clive Owen and Andrea Riseborough
One of the best movies I saw at Sundance was one that completely blind sided me with its intricacy and devastating final scene. That film was Shadow Dancer, the latest from genre hopping director, James Marsh(Man on Wire, Red Riding), with Clive Owen and Andrea Riseborough(W.E.) starring.
The film takes an unromantic look at the Irish Republican Army(IRA), with Riseborough playing a single mother and one of their members. When she gets captured in the midst of a terrorist act, she makes the decision to turn informant for MI5, with Owen as her handler. The decision puts the life of her and her family in danger from a number of threats, some closer than she thinks.
Some will find it too much of a slow burn, but the central themes of loyalty and self preservation resonate powerfully throughout. Riseborough gives a devastating performance, while Owen is slightly more reserved than we've seen him. For those who invest the time, there's a huge payoff waiting that makes it all worth it. With the film about to premier in the UK, a new trailer has been released. Hopefully we'll hear more about a US run soon....[HeyUGuys]
