Craig Gillespie to direct Will Ferrell in 'The Flamingo Thief'

It was back in February we learned that Will Ferrell had taken home the lead in the unusual sounding dramedy, The Flamingo Thief. Based on the book by Susan Trott and adapted by Michael LeSieur(You Me & Dupree), the film follows Tim Forrester, a multi-millionaire businessman who deals with the loss of his son by stealing pink flamingos. We haven't heard anything about it since, but the ball is still rolling as Craig Gillespie(Lars and the Real Girl) has been brought on to direct.

This has to be welcome news for Gillespie, as he had a dreadful 2011. His Fright Night remake was unfairly slept on last summer, and let's not forget he was one of the many names attached to the adaptation of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. That project's likely dead as a doornail now considering Seth Grahame-Smith's other novel, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, did squat at the box office.

Ferrell's got a busy slate, with the football comedy Three Mississippi coming up next. After that, it's a trip to the past with the Anchorman sequel. So we may not see The Flamingo Thief for a couple of years. [Variety]
