Joy Bryant wins lead in the 'About Last Night' remake
Maybe Screen Gems isn't trying to totally reunite the cast of their hit, Think Like A Man? It certainly seemed that way, with Kevin Hart, Michael Ealy, and Regina Hall quickly added to their upcoming remake of About Last Night, the 1986 dramedy that starred Demi Moore and Rob Lowe. There was only one major role left to be filled, that of the female lead, and Deadline reports Joy Bryant(Antwone Fisher) has walked away with it.
Bryant will be sharing the screen mostly with Ealy, with the two of them playing a couple who embark on a chaotic relationship after a one night stand, much to the chagrin of their friends. Steve Pink(Hot Tub Time Machine) recently came aboard as director, and at the time Screen Gems was considering changing the title to Sexual Perversity in Chicago, which is the title of the David Mamet play that spawned the story. Despite changing the setting from Chicago to Los Angeles, it's Mamet's version that will serve as the basis, and not the previous film. Production is slated to kick off on September 17th, so expect a final decision to come down shortly.
I've always felt that Bryant has never quite lived up to the promise of her earlier career, having been surpassed by Sanaa Lathan, Kerry Washington, and a number of others. She's been a part of NBC's Parenthood ensemble, where she seems to have found her footing. We'll see her next in the Dax Shepard action/comedy, Hit and Run, hitting theaters next week. [Deadline]
