With production on Kick-Ass 2: Balls to the Wall just getting underway, there's been a rumor floating around the last few days about just who would be filling the key role of Mother Russia, the physically imposing female bodyguard who the Red Mist(Christopher Mintz-Plasse) pays to be by his side. A photo tweeted from the set gave us just a peek at the chiseled physique of a woman hilariously towering over Mintz-Plasse while he looks sorta dumbfounded. The Internet was abuzz with the idea that it may be often nude bodybuilder Olga Kurkulina, and now it looks like the rumors are true.
Our homie Brendon Connelly over at BleedingCool did the digging on this one, and he came up with some quotes from Kurkulina over at Iron World which seem to confirm her presence in the film...
"I competed against other candidates from America, Switzerland and
Holland. I spent three weeks in the casting, which took place at
Pinewood studios. At the end, the director told me that I was getting a
role. This was a difficult time psychologically and physically.Mny people worked hard and from the heart to help me. On August 30th we fly to Toronto for a month’s shooting on location, and then we go back to London where stunts will be filmed at a local studio.
Now I’m train hard, learning new movements for attack and defense working with professionals on my acting and speech training."
To the best of my knowledge this would be Kurkulina's first feature film role, and it should be a doozy. Mother Russia is brutally violent, a true killer in every sense of the word, who despite her physical toughness and vicious attitude retains a hint of femininity and sensuality. She's an ex-KGB agent who fights as part of the Red Mist's team of evildoers known as the Toxic Mega-Cunts. I think Kurkulina fits the bill quite nicely, clocking in at a towering 6 foot 2 and 200lbs of chiseled granite. I can't wait to see the fight between her and Hit-Girl. Should be friggin' epic.Kick-Ass 2: Balls to the Wall is directed by Jeff Wadlow with a script by Matthew Vaughn, and opens next year on June 28th.
