Nicolas Cage to lead vigilante thriller 'I Am Wrath'; William Friedkin may direct

Considering the abundance of crap Nicolas Cage has been putting out over the last few years, he's probably the last person to be associated with the film festival circuit. But you'd be wrong in thinking that way, as many of the straight-to-DVD or easy paycheck gigs he's signed up for have emanated while others are enjoying some boring indie. And now you can add another one to the list.

Deadline reports that Cage will star in the vigilante thriller, I Am Wrath, which will be co-produced by Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson's Vision Films. So you can probably expect the rapper and king of the low-budget thriller to take a role or something, although that's not clear just yet. The plot sounds like a gazillion other Cage/50 Cent flicks, following a man who seeks vengeance against the killers and corrupt cops responsible for his wife's murder. Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz......

As dull as that sounds, there is potential hope on the horizon. William Friedkin, the director behind The Exorcist, Bug, and who totally wrecked shop this summer with Killer Joe, may come aboard to helm this one. If it happens I Am Wrath takes a serious credibility jump. So between this and the recent news Cage would be starring in David Gordon Green's southern drama, Joe, this has been one productive Toronto International Film Festival for him.

Production will begin early next year, and I wouldn't be surprised if we see it by the end of 2013.
