What!? Michael Dorn confirms role in a 'Castlevania' film

On our show last Sunday, John and I talked a lot about the future of video game movies. One of the movies he mentioned that he wanted to see was Castlevania, the Konami game series that followed the vampire hunting Belmont clan. The thing is, there's been a Castlevania film in the works for years, and rather than trying to revisit all of the complicated twists of the production process it was better to just sit quietly and not say anything.  Almost as if on cue, we're getting an update that seems to confirm the film is very much a "go", although plenty of questions remain.

While on the Nerdist podcast, Michael Dorn(Worf from Star Trek: TNG) revealed that he'll be playing a werewolf in the Castlevania film. His character works alongside the big bad vampire of the story. He says he'll be spending four days shooting his part, but he doesn't reveal anything further about it. So who the heck is actually directing this thing?

The film has been in the works since at least 2005, with Paul W.S. Anderson(Resident Evil) set to write and direct. He eventually slipped into a producer role and passed the writing/directing chores over to James Wan(Saw), but we haven't heard a thing since. Late in 2009 Anderson said they were still in the pre-production phase with Wan rewriting the latest draft. So I guess  we can assume that Anderson and Wan are still attached? Has anyone else been cast? It doesn't seem logical they'd cast a supporting villain character before landing someone to play heroic vamp killer, Simon Belmont. Clearly there's more going on here than meets the eye.

There's still no official confirmation on anything, but with Dorn feeling comfortable enough to make such clear statements on it I'm guessing we'll be hearing something very soon.
