For a very long time John Cusack has been my favorite actor, and I'm willing to bet that plenty of guys my age feel the same way. The High Fidelity and Say Anything star has been struggling pretty bad of late, and there really isn't anyone to blame but himself. Taking on terrible films like The Raven and The Paperboy are a quick path to cinematic limbo. If things are ever going to turn around, he's got to make a move now, and he may be taking that first step by signing on to a pair of promising projects.
Cusack is set to star in Cell, an adaptation of Stephen King's novel about a world where cell phone signals force people to give in to their most violent, basest emotions. King will co-write the script along with Adam Alleca(Last House on the Left), while the search for a director is still on. Cusack will play graphic artist Clay Riddell, who goes off in search of his wife and son while chaos ensues.Before that he'll star in Due Process, a financial world drama in which he'll play a farmer who squares off against two bankers who have come to foreclose. Paul Currie(One Perfect Day) will direct based on a script by Anthony Derrico. Filming kicks off in January.
Hopefully these two films will get Cusack back on the right track. He hasn't had a really good film since his last Stephen King adaptation, 1408.[Screen Daily]
