What were people expecting from The Canyons, anyway? All the pieces were there for it to a nasty, psycho-sexual piece of work with Lindsay Lohan starring opposite porn star James Deen and a script from Bret Easton Ellis(American Psycho). But the real x-factor was director Paul Schrader, best known for writing Taxi Driver and Raging Bull. How would he choose to bring his LA noir story to the big screen? At least in this new teaser trailer it's by going full on grindhouse mode.
Now whether or not the film itself turns out this way or if this is just a marketing gimmick, we'll just have to wait and see. Cut like a salacious exploitation flick, the trailer doesn't give much away in terms of plot, and features pretty much no dialogue. Instead it gives a sex and drug-fueled look at Lohan and Deen, with the latter's porn career a "huge" chunk of the cheeky humor. Here's hoping the camp vibe sticks around, especially in the scenes with Gus Van Sant. Yeah, he's in this, too! Shot digitally on an ultra low budget, the film follows a group of 20-somethings exploring sexual obsession and ambition in modern day Hollywood. Yep, this is an Easton Ellis story alright!
