Sure Shots: Scott Derrickson; Jim Carrey; Rupert Sanders
* Scott Derrickson and producer Jason Blum struck gold over the weekend with Sinister, the horror film hauling in $18M, roughly six times the film's production budget. Not too shabby. They hope to keep ball rolling as they've acquired the rights to Stephen King's novella, The Breathing Method. The story was part of the 19872 anthology, Different Seasons, and tells the story of a woman who is so determined to give birth to her illegitimate child through what is referred to as the "breathing method", that she lingers on even after a horrific incident takes place. * With The Incredible Burt Wonderstone on the way and Kick-Ass 2 filming right now, Jim Carrey is definitely on the comeback trail. While we still wait for further word on Dumb and Dumber To, Carrey has entered talks to star in the action comedy, Loomis Fargo. The film is based on the true story of armored car driver David Scott Ghannt, who helped lead the robbery of the Loomis Fargo & Company bank vault to the tune of $17.3M. The plan was successful, but Ghannt and his co-conspirators were eventually arrested and 95% of the money recovered. Jared Hess(Napoleon Dynamite) will direct, and the script has undergone a number of revisions. Initially written by Emily Spivey, it was then passed to Danny McBride and Jody Hill, before undergoing a most recent rewrite by Chris Bowman and Hubbel Palmer. Filming on Loomis Fargo is set to begin in April. [Variety]
* I think we're finally reaching the point where it's safe to talk about Rupert Sanders without the name 'Kristen Stewart' having to be part of the discussion. Oops. Anyway, he's rebounded quite nicely from that whole affair, last week having his name entered into the mix to direct Van Helsing with Tom Cruise. Now he's lined up another project which some are describing as Bonnie and Clyde in space. Sanders will direct The Juliet, based on a short story by Alfred Bester and adapted for the screen by Henry Bean(The Believer). Details are slim but it's definitely a sci-fi film set in the future, and based on the title I'm going to assume a romance of some sort. Expect casting to begin soon as filming is set to begin next spring. [Deadline]
