Wait...so now there's a link between 'Prometheus' and 'Blade Runner'?

What's Ridley Scott trying to do? Form his own little Marvel-esque cinematic world where all of his most cherished movies are set in the same world?  We can probably argue in what ways Prometheus fits in with Alien, but the director is making it clear that there's a link between it and his other sci-fi classic, Blade Runner.

In the U.K. steelbook release of Prometheus, there's an interesting little Easter Egg that has a supposed email between Peter Weyland and what seems to be Eldon Tyrell of Blade Runner's Tyrell Corporation. The email suggests the two were rivals in the field of human replicant technology, with Tyrell serving as one of Weyland's mentors....

Pretty cool, right? But what's the point, really? Is this just a cool nod to eagle-eyed fans of both movies? Or, with Scott developing sequels to Prometheus and Blade Runner, is this meant to be something greater? Is he maybe setting us up to have the connections become clearer down the line? To me, it's another reason to pay attention to the extras in Prometheus when it hits DVD/Blu-Ray tomorrow.  Pick up your copy here.
