Cate Blanchett to play the evil stepmother in Disney's live-action 'Cinderella'

Disney has always had their toes dipped in a lot of pools, but lately they just seem to be everywhere. With their superhero, Star Wars, and animated divisions in full swing, one other area they seem to be focusing on right now are live-action reimaginings of some of their classics. We already have Angelina Jolie as the evil queen in Maleficent, and now we're getting another amazing actress for a Cinderella adaptation.

The Wrap reports that Cate Blanchett has entered talks to star as the evil stepmother in Cinderella, which is to be directed by Mark Romanek(Never Let Me Go). The film has been in the works for a couple of years, with the initial script from Aline Brosh McKenna(The Devil Wears Prada). Chris Weitz(The Golden Compass) came aboard earlier this year to take on the latest draft.

Blanchett's going to be really busy next year, what with George Clooney's The Monuments Men and The Hobbit taking up a chunk of her time. So I wouldn't expect this to go in front of cameras any time soon. The character has been played by numerous actresses, but I've always been fond of Anjelica Huston's in Ever After: A Cinderella Story.
