Chris Hemsworth steps into Stephen Gaghan's 'Candy Store'

Oh, so this is the real reason why Chris Hemsworth dropped out of American Assassin? Those scheduling issues had less to do with all of the other films he's attached to, and more to do with one he was about to add. The Wrap reports that Hemsworth has signed on to star in Candy Store, from writer/director Stephen Gaghan(Syriana).

Gaghan must have something really special brewing here, because we've seen names like Brad Pitt, Christoph Waltz, Jamie Foxx, Denzel Washington, Christian Bale, Matt Damon, and more all circling the film at different points. Right now it doesn't sound as if anybody else is confirmed. Hemsworth will play Mark Swain, a deep undercover agent who loses everything and looks for a fresh start as a Brooklyn beat cop, only to discover that the global organization he'd been fighting against is operating in his new neighborhood.

We could be waiting awhile to see this one happen, as Hemsworth is crazy busy with Thor 2, Robopocalypse, as well as a brewing Steve McQueen biopic titled Triumph, which his younger brother Liam also has been offered. And that excludes stuff like The Avengers 2 and a Snow White and the Huntsman sequel.
