James McAvoy joins Benedict Cumberbatch in Bill Condon's Wikileaks film

Though Wikileaks founder Julian Assange's story is far from over, that hasn't stopped Hollywood from developing a number of projects surrounding the controversial whistleblower/activist/terrorist, depending on your opinion of him. Perhaps the most promising of the bunch is being developed by Dreamworks and has Bill Condon(The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn) set to direct, and now all of the pieces are starting to come together with two stars now confirmed.

Benedict Cumberbatch has now been confirmed to play Assange in the Wikileaks feature, after being rumored for it last month. At the same time, Joel Kinnaman was in the running to play Assange's right-hand man and eventual nemesis , Daniel Domscheit-Berg, who also wrote the book Inside WikiLeaks: My Time With Julian Assange At The World's Most Dangerous Website, from which the film will be based. Well Kinnaman is out, and stepping in James McAvoy. This marks the third time Cumberbatch and McAvoy will have teamed up after Starter for 10 and Atonement.

Not just a straight biopic, the story will apparently chronicle the evolution of Wikileaks and Assange's evolution from an unbiased whistleblower into a man obsessed with power. Sounds like an interesting angle, one that should make for a heck of a film. [Variety]
