Rose Byrne, Patrick Wilson, and James Wan returning for 'Insidious 2'
James Wan is going to have a busy summer next year, but if recent history proves anything it will also be a highly profitable one. The director scored one of his biggest hits with the psycho-horror Insidious, which nearly cracked $100M on a measley $1M budget, and now he's looking to replicate that success on August 30th 2013 with Insidious Chapter 2.
We learned last February that a sequel was already in development, with Wan's frequent writing partner Leigh Whannel revealing that he and Angus Sampson would be reprising their roles as the ghostbusting duo of Specs and Tucker. With Film District now giving the film the green light, it's also been confirmed that Rose Byrne and Patrick Wilson will be back, along with Lin Shaye and Ty Simpkins as the boy who found himself possessed by demons from another realm.
Next July also sees the release of The Conjuring, a second horror film from Wan which also features Wilson in a leading role, so they'll be competing against themselves next summer. Wan also recently signed on to go in a different direction by taking on a big screen version of 1980s TV series MacGyver, but clearly that will have to wait.
