The Sunday Drive 11/25/12

Hey, it's that time of year where theaters are jam packed with great movies, so there's really no excuse for you to see anything terrible. There are probably seven or eight movies that could crack the top 3, so believe me when I say this was the toughest week yet!

3. Life of Pi
A magical, spiritual journey like no other, Ang Lee accomplishes what many thought was impossible in adapting Yann Martel's best-selling novel. Combining amazing visual beauty and emotional resonance, Life of Pi is the perfect film for the holiday season.
2. Skyfall
Considering it was the highest grossing James Bond film after only two weeks, I'm assuming everyone has already seen what many are calling the best film of the long-running franchise ever. And if you haven't, what the heck are you waiting for?
1. Rust and Bone
A deeply affecting, emotional powerhouse and a cinematic tour de force, Rust and Bone features superb direction by the great Jacques Audiard and two Oscar-worthy performances by Marion Cotillard and Matthias Schoenaerts. An uncompromising, unconventional love story, this is quite simply the finest film of the year.

DVD Pick of the Week: The Expendables 2
Fans of the classic action movies of the 1980s will get all muscled-up, oiled-up, bullet-riddled goodness they can ask for in more. Far and away superior to the original, and featuring an even larger crew of genre icons, The Expendables 2 shows these old dogs don't need to learn any new tricks.
