Tom Hardy to star as Sam Fisher in 'Splinter Cell'

UbiSoft isn't screwing around with their plan to bring some of their biggest video game franchises to the big screen. In fact, they seem to be aiming for the stars in luring top flight talent to help stake their claim as a major force in Hollywood. Already they've got Michael Fassbender set to star in an adaptation of their hit game, Assassin's Creed. And now they've set another A-lister for their crown jewel, the best-selling espionage game Splinter Cell.

Deadline reports that Tom Hardy will headline the film, taking on the role of Black Ops agent Sam Fisher. While no director is in place, the script comes from Eric Warren Singer, writer of The International and David O. Russell's upcoming film formerly titled American Bullshit. A studio still needs to come aboard before Splinter Cell really gets moving, but that shouldn't take long. The games are based on the Tom Clancy media franchise, and the author has a long working relationship with Paramount, so they seem like a possible candidate.

It's a wonder Hardy even found time to sit down for a meeting as he's been lining up projects left and right. He's got a pair of anti-poaching films with Leonardo DiCaprio and Tobey Maguire; Dennis Lehane's Animal Rescue; not to mention circling Christopher McQuarrie's Without Remorse, and Doug Liman's Everest.
