Beautiful rain-soaked image from Pixar's 'The Blue Umbrella'

Yesterday we brought you the first clip from Pixar's upcoming short film, The Blue Umbrella, which utilizes a photorealistic style the groundbreaking animators have never attempted before. Now the Wall Street Journal have dropped a new image that shows just how far Pixar are going in making this their most beautiful film yet.

The story follows blue and red umbrellas that fall in love one rainy day. I'm assuming all of those dark greyish umbrellas won't have much of a say in the matter. It does look like everything else will stick to the typical color palette, including the yellow taxi. What really strikes me is the use of lighting in the overhead shot. This is going to look gorgeous on a theater screen.

The Blue Umbrella is directed by Saschka Unseld, and will debut ahead of Monsters University on June 21st.
