The Wall Street Journal has debuted the first footage from Pixar's upcoming animated short film, The Blue Umbrella, which will be seen ahead of Monsters University. Pixar has been doing great things with these shorts lately, and this one looks gorgeous, clearly aiming for a photo-realism we've never seen from the studio before. But it also looks like a fun and creative love story, following two umbrellas who fall in love while out in the rain.
Saschka Unseld, a member of Pixar's camera unit, is directing and I love how the realistic look meshes with the cartoony facial expressions on the umbrellas. You can find out more about the film at the Rainy City Tales Tumblr. The Blue Umbrella will hit theaters on June 21st, and suffice it to say I can't wait to see it in full.
