Frankenweenie:
Tim Burton's career comes full circle with the big screen feature Frankenweenie, fans of the eccentric director will know that he made a short film version of this very film as a student director. While the themes of the film may be too much for most kids I can easily say that this one should motivate adults with a prejudice on animation to give the medium a chance. Heartfelt, funny and entertaining...if not a bit creepier than you'd think, Frankenweenie is a definite rental that you should certainly consider as a buy this week.

Dredd:
Talk about not getting a fair shake. Dredd which died horribly at the box office this past September is a movie that I pray will suprise a lot of people on home video. While I didn't mind the Stallone movie from back in the day this version of the future lawman is vastly better. Nothing world changing but it accomplishes exactly what it should and in fine form. 90 minutes of hard nose gritty action that will surely be a Saturday afternoon regular on TBS or SPIKE in a few years. This flick is perfectly suited to be part of your home collection, more so than even an Oscar worthy flick that you won't be rewatching that often, Dredd is perfect for the background or front and center for a lazy Friday night!

House at the End of the Street:
The stock thriller/horror flick was an inevitability for Jennifer Lawrence after hitting big with The Hunger Games. It's pretty much a rite of passage for young Hollywood once their big break hits. There is absolutely nothing special about this flick, and really there's nothing wrong with that. She gets paid and we get a reason to invite that special someone over for a night of jump scare movie watching!

Hit & Run:
Dax Shepard headlines this action comedy...which is about all you need to know. Shepard, when not defying logic by getting Kristin Bell to date him, can usually be found making direct to DVD type movies that somehow make it to theaters...for however short a time as that may be. While Bradley Cooper's presence may lead you to believe that this is some kind of underground masterpiece of funny I'm here to tell you that there's no truth to that thought.
