Steve Carell and Universal hit the altar for upcoming FBI wedding comedy

A couple of years ago, at the peak of his popularity, Steve Carell became attached to a whole slew of projects. Many of those came to pass, while others sorta fell off and disappeared into development limbo. One of those he was circling was an FBI wedding comedy being put together by Universal written by Phil Alden Robinson (Field of Dreams), and now with Carell again in the midst of a hot streak, the studio want to get in on some of the action.

Deadline reports the untitled FBI wedding comedy is moving forward, with David Flebotte taking a pass on the script. Flebotte is a TV vet who has written episodes of Boardwalk Empire and Desperate Housewives, so it's a little unclear if his addition is a good thing or not. The film has been described as a combination of Stakeout and My Best Friend's Wedding, which sounds too terrible to be attempted.

Carell's too likable for this to be total disaster, though, and who knows? Maybe it will even be good? He's already got the magician comedy The Incredible Burt Wonderstone coming up  next month, and I think people are going to be surprised at the dark turn he takes in The Way, Way Back when it presumably arrives later this year.
