Trailer for Disney's 'Cars' spinoff, 'Planes'
It's been a couple of years since we first learned about Planes, Disney's spinoff of Pixar's Cars that at the time was envisioned as a straight-to-DVD film. They've since changed course and decided to release it in theaters this summer, and now they've released the trailer which played at the D23 Expo last year.
The film follows Dusty, a crop duster with big dreams to enter the world's most epic around-the-world race. The only problem is that he's afraid of heights. Brad Garrett, Stacy Keach, and Carlos Alazraqui (Reno 911) lend their voices, with TV animation vet Klay Hall directing.
Cars is arguably Pixar's least memorable film, so it's possible Planes could end up being the rare case of a spinoff surpassing the original. We'll find out when it takes off into theaters on August 9th.
