Christina Applegate will go on a 'Vacation' with Ed Helms

New Line's reboot/sequel of classic road trip comedy Vacation has been truckin' along for nearly four years, yet it's only been recently that it's started to gel into a real production. John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein (Horrible Bosses) are making their directorial debut while also penning the script, and last year Ed Helms came aboard to play a grown up Rusty Griswold. Now another strong comic talent has come aboard with Christina Applegate playing Rusty's wife.

The story will follow much the same model as the hit 1983 film, which starred Chevy Chase and Beverly D'Angelo as parents taking their two kids on an epically bad road trip to an amusement park. Anthony Michael Hall played Rusty in the original film, but with each sequel the role was recast. Applegate's character is described as "strong willed" and possibly losing interest in her husband, which is a departure from the original story. Chase and D'Angelo are being sought for cameos, but nothing has been confirmed.

Filming will likely begin once Applegate wraps up Anchorman: The Legend Continues. [THR]
