Major props need to go out to Dave Franco and Christopher Mintz-Plasse for not getting pidgeon-holed early in their comedic careers. Mintz-Plasse made his name as McLovin in Superbad (Franco had a brief cameo), but has broken out beyond that unforgettable performance into even better roles. Franco has done a bang up job stepping out of his brother's shadow when it would have been easier to just ride his coattails.
The two will pair up for Townies, the new comedy directed by Nicholas Stoller (Forgetting Sarah Marshall), and starring Zac Efron and Seth Rogen. Rogen plays a local married guy whose personal life is made more difficult by a bunch of rambunctious fratboys led by Efron, with Franco as his best buddy. Rose Byrne is Rogen's wife, who has grown tired of his immaturity.
Mintz-Plasse just finished up Kick-Ass 2, and Franco will co-star in the magician thriller Now You See Me. Production on Townies begins soon.
