Emma Stone, Zach Galifianakis, Naomi Watts, and Michael Keaton in for Aleajandro Gonzalez Inarritu's 'Birdman'
After a string of multi-facted, emotionally tough human dramas like Babel, Amores Perros, 21 Grams, and Biutiful, Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu has decided to go for something lighter. Late last year we learned he was preparing to tackle comedy with Birdman, which he co-wrote with Nicolas Giacobone, Alexander Dinelaris, and Armando Bo. Always able to attract top notch talent, Inarritu has assembled a cast which will make this a film to keep an eye on.
THR reports that Naomi Watts, Emma Stone, Michael Keaton, and Zach Galifianakis have signed up for the lighthearted comedy about a once-great actor who played an iconic superhero, and now launches a Broadway play in an attempt to reclaim past glory. Keaton, who has been more prominent lately than in quite awhile, will take on the lead as the egotistical actor. Stone will play his daughter and assistant, fresh out of rehab. Watts is one of the play's actresses, while Galifianakis is a producer.
Impressive, to say the least. Fox Searchlight has it pegged to begin filming in April, so it should be in theaters fairly soon. Maybe early next year?
