New trailer for family drama 'What Maisie Knew' with Julianne Moore and Steve Coogan
The harsh realities of divorce have been the impetus for many a film, with most centering on the devastating effect it has on the children. Even as the nuclear family has evolved over the years, that aspect of it isn't likely to change any time soon, and the upcoming drama What Maisie Knew shows how one child's world is ripped apart by her parents' fierce custody battle.
Julianne Moore plays an ex-rock star locked in a heated custody fight with her ex-husband, an art dealer portrayed by Steve Coogan. In the middle of this battle is their six year-old daughter, Maisie, who endures the constant arguing and getting passed around from parent to parent, while at the same time they are entering new relationships with different people. Alexander Skarsgard is a bartender who hooks up with Moore, while Joanna Vanderham plays Maise's former nanny, which obviously makes for some awkward situations.
The film is based on Henry James' classic novel, adapted by Carroll Cartwright and Nancy Doyne. Scott McGehee and David Siegel co-directed the film, which based on the newly released trailer appears to have some powerful performances and real dramatic heft. Moore is teaming back up with The Kids Are All Right producers for another look at a family put through the emotional wringer. What Maisie Knew opens on May 23rd.
