Amber Heard and Shiloh Fernandez in the new trailer for 'Syrup'
After rounding up an impressive young cast in Amber Heard, Shiloh Fernandez, and Kellan Lutz, the advertising world comedy Syrup looked like a potential sleeper, or at the very least a festival darling. But the first trailer released last fall didn't exactly set the world on fire, and as of now it won't be showing up anywhere before its VOD release on May 2nd. Perhaps in a last ditch effort to drum up some support, a brand new trailer has now been released.
Directed by Aram Rapaport, the film follows a number of oddly-named characters involved with the marketing of a cynical new soda called "Fukk". Fernandez plays Scat, who dreams up the cola, and hooks up in more ways than one a 6 (Heard) a marketing rep for a larger soda chain. Lutz plays Sneaky Pete who, true to his name, steals the copyright and sells it on his own.
Full of aggressively shallow dialogue like "It's the American Dream in a can" and "It'll be like drinking irony", the film could prove to be more abrasive than insightful. But the novel by Max Barry does have a lot of devoted fans which could help push Syrup over. After opening On Demand it'll hit theaters on June 7th, where it'll face an uphill battle against Will Smith's After Earth, and The Internship with Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson.
