First Trailer and Images from 'Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa'
Rumors that MTV's Jackass crew were planning a fourth film based on Johnny Knoxville's ancient, trouble-making grandpa, Irving Zisman, have been floating around for more than a year. Nothing was ever announced, though, which is why it was a shock when Paramount revealed that the film had already been filmed, and was slated for release this October. Now we're getting the first trailer from Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa along with a clearer understanding of what the film will be, and it sounds like they've been reading from the Sacha Baron Cohen playbook.
Combining the gang's usual array of pranks and ridiculously dangerous stunts with a fictional narrative, the film will follow the 85-year old Zisman as he journeys across the country with his grandson, played by Knoxville's Fun Size co-star, Jackson Nicholl. It's no surprise Paramount keeps pumping these films out as they are cheap to produce and generally clean up at the box office. Knoxville has often expressed a desire to quit putting his body in harm's way, and this is probably the best way to do it as it doesn't look like we'll see the Zisman character getting bitten by gators or shot with riot guns. Then again, you never know because the entire Jackass crew are generally out of their minds.
Knoxville co-wrote the script with Spike Jonze and director Jeff Tremaine, and so far it's not clear if Zisman is interesting enough to sustain an entire film. The interludes with him were probably the least successful parts of the prior movies because people really want to see these guys put their bodies at risk, not just pull cheap Candid Camera pranks. Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa opens on October 25th.
