Jason Clarke Joins 'Child 44'; Chloe Moretz Confirmed for 'If I Stay'; Sharlto Copley Goes 'Hardcore'

* It's a Bondurant brothers reunion! The last time Jason Clarke and Tom Hardy teamed up it was in the Prohibition-era drama, Lawless, a film which I think was sadly overlooked by far too many. Now they're pairing up again, and in another period piece, only this one takes them from the Virginia mountains to the cold climate of the Soviet Union. Clarke has joined Hardy in Child 44, the adaptation of Tom Rob Smiths' Cold War novel that already has a stellar cast. Gary Oldman (another Lawless alum), Noomi Rapace, Joel Kinnaman, Philip Seymour Hoffman, and Paddy Considine star in the film, directed by Daniel Espinosa, which follows a disgraced MGB agent investigating a prolific child murderer who may have connections to the top of Stalin's regime. The story is based on the real life case of the Rostov Ripper, and if all comes together Clarke would be playing a character accused of being a traitor. Clarke has been busy this year, appearing in Baz Luhrmann's The Great Gatsby and in White House Down. [THR]

* Back in January we learned that MGM wanted Chloe Moretz to lead If I Stay, a supernatural drama based on the 2009 novel by Gayle Forman. Now that all of the rights issues have been settled, Moretz is now confirmed for the role, joining director R.J. Cutler in the film about a teenaged cello prodigy who is in a coma after a devastating accident, and has an out of body experience in which she must choose between giving up or pursuing a difficult future. * It seems Sharlto Copley just can't stay away from sci-fi for very long. The District 9, Elysium, and Europa Report star will play the hero in Hardcore, a first-person POV action film from Russian writer/director Ilya Naishuller. Details are scarce, but Copley is said to be protecting a damsel in distress by killing a lot of bad guys. Wanted and Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter director Timur Bekmambetov is on board as a producer. [TheWrap]
