Neill Blomkamp's 'Elysium' Reveals A New Clip and Extended Trailer
After months of being kept under some measure of secrecy, we've now been shown a lot from Neill Blomkamp's Elysium. Clips have been dropping on a daily basis in hopes of whipping up anticipation for what many consider the last big film of the summer, despite it not really being your typical blockbuster. With it due to hit theaters in just a few days, a lengthier trailer and a new clip have been released, granting another look at the ruinous sci-fi landscape Blomkamp has envisioned.
Set in the year 2154, the film has Matt Damon as an ex-con attempting to start over in a world where the rich live in an idyllic, disease-free space station in the sky, and the poor struggle on a devastated Earth below. Much of the footage in the trailer is familiar, although it does provide our best look at Alice Braga's character yet. It's her son that Damon will attempt to help on his way to break into Elysium and find a cancer cure. Sharlto Copley features in the new clip as Agent Kruger, who takes lethal steps to ensure that nobody does what Damon is attempting to do.
Elysium opens on August 9th.
