James Spader is Ultron in 'The Avengers: Age of Ultron'

Marvel and Joss Whedon have been making bold choices in casting their superhero films since the beginning, and it's continued as they ready for The Avengers sequel. Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Elizabeth Olsen seem all but set to play the mutant siblings Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch, and now the titular villain of The Avengers: Age of Ultron has been found.

Emmy winner James Spader has been cast as Ultron, the evil sentient android and longtime Avengers foe. Having spent the majority of the last few years playing offbeat characters on the small screen in Boston Legal, The Practice, and The Office, Spader makes for an unconventional but welcome choice. He was great in a small but flashy role in Steven Spielberg's Lincoln, and will probably bring some of that same eccentricity to Ultron, who simmers with a hatred for humanity.

The Avengers: Age of Ultron opens on May 1st 2015.
