Kurt Russell Races To 'Fast & Furious 7', Hopefully as Stuntman Mike
After portraying another memorable Quentin Tarantino character as Death Proof's Stuntman Mike, it seemed like Kurt Russell was on the verge of a major comeback. He had a role in the director's Django Unchained, where he would have replaced Kevin Costner, but then dropped out himself soon after. Now he's jumping into another blockbuster, and hopefully this time he'll stick around for the duration.
Russell is the latest new addition to James Wan's Fast & Furious 7, joining Ronda Rousey, Jason Statham and Tony Jaa. Russell's role is being kept under wraps, but it's said to be the same one offered to Denzel Washington awhile back, which probably means he's a good guy. Our friends over at Bleeding Cool have a bit more info, saying his backstory is connected to the villainous Shaw brothers. Luke Evans played one of them in the prior film, with Statham now taking over as the older sibling.
Between Statham, Jaa, and Russell, I'm pretty much in heaven when it comes to the new cast. Almost helps me get over those who won't be coming back. Almost. The only way this would be cooler is if Russell is revealed to be Stuntman Mike seeking revenge on tough chicks the world over. He'd find plenty to contend with in this cast, that's for sure.
Fast & Furious 7 begins filming soon for release on May 24th 2014. [Variety]
