The Butler and Red Tails star David Oyelowo is in talks to lend his voice to Star Wars: Rebels, the new CG-animated series basically taking the place of Star Wars: The Clone Wars. Also in consideration are Freddie Prinze Jr., Vanessa Marshall, Taylor Gray, and Steven Jay Blum for unidentified roles on the show which will take place during the twenty years between Episode III and Episode IV.
Seems like an odd move for Oyelowo considering how red hot he is right now, but maybe this is what he was actually talking to Lucasfilm about, and not his rumored role in Star Wars: Episode VII? This would be his first voice-acting gig, while Prinze has done work on the Mass Effect video games.
As for specific storylines, Bleeding Cool says it "revolves around a bunch of young folk who take to a ship called The
Ghost and go on the run when their home planet becomes a base for the
Imperial Empire, suddenly surrounding them with austere adult authority
figures". These kids would then play an integral part in the formation of the Rebel Alliance, but whether that means they'll play familiar characters is still unclear.
Look for Star Wars: Rebels to air in 2014. [THR]
