New Trailers for Naomi Watts Films 'Diana' and 'Sunlight Jr.'

Now that her pal Nicole Kidman is out of the Oscar race, does that open up a clearer path for Nicole Kidman? Well, the jury's still out on that. The response to her Prince Di biopic Diana hasn't been too good, perhaps a warm reception by audiences will change that. And if doesn't, Watts also has the indie drama Sunlight Jr. that has been quietly building buzz ever since it debuted at Tribeca. Which one will do her the greatest justice this fall season we won't know for a couple of months, but trailers for both offer up new looks at what appears to be Watts in top form.

First up is the latest glimpse at Diana, directed by Oliver Hirschbiegel and co-starring Naveen Andrews as Di's greatest love, Dr. Hasnat Khan. The film follows the People's Princess as she embarks on their relationship in the final months of her life, only to see things disintegrate due to public pressure and the ever-present paparazzi breathing down their necks. But we also see more of her humanitarian work, her private moments (the few she had), and her attempts to break out from under the glaring eyes of the Royal Family. Diana opens on November 1st.

And then there is Sunlight Jr., which has Watts co-starring with Matt Dillon as a hard luck couple who finally see a ray of hope when she becomes pregnant. But things don't quite turn out as they hoped, as his disability prevents him from working and her cashier job won't cut it, not to mention the presence of a former flame (Norman Reedus) sparking old feelings in her. The film marks the follow-up feature by Laurie Collyer, who did terrific work with Maggie Gyllenhaal on Sherrybaby.

Honestly, Diana seems like a standard issue biopic, but Sunlight Jr. looks like a hard-hitting emotional powerhouse. Sunlight Jr. opens on November 15th.
