Todd Field Lands Imogen Poots for 'Beautiful Ruins'

Fans of Todd Field have probably grown accustomed to waiting long stretches of time between his films. It was five years between his debut feature In the Bedroom and his acclaimed follow-up Little Children, and now seven years later his next film has just taken a big step forward. It was earlier this year we learned he would write and direct an adaptation of Jess Walter's Beautiful Ruins, and now he's found a star in Imogen Poots.

The fast-rising Poots, who will be seen next in Need for Speed, will star in the romance drama set in the spring of 1962 in Rome, and following three characters who are connected during the La Dolce Vita craziness around the filming of Cleopatra. Their bond lasts for decades and is revisited in modern day Hollywood. Poots will star as actress Dee Moray, while a search for the male leads is still ongoing.

Poots has quietly developed into one of the most unpredictable actresses around. The Fright Night star recently appeared in the Jimi Hendrix biopic All is By My Side; starred with James McAvoy in Filth; and played Steve Coogan's daughter in The Look of Love. She has Terrence Malick's Knight of Cups, Peter Boganovich's Squirrel to the Nuts, and Need for Speed coming in 2014. [Variety]
