'Safe House' Writer David Guggenheim Targets 'Bad Boys 3'; Michael Bay Not Involved

It's been a few years since there's been any movement on a third Bad Boys movie, the action franchise starring Martin Lawrence and Will Smith as a combustible pair of cops. About three years ago Lawrence and producer Jerry Bruckheimer were making the rounds and talking up a sequel, and Peter Craig was hired to begin work on a screenplay. Nothing ever came of it, and now as a decade has passed since Bad Boys 2, it looks like Sony Pictures is getting serious again.

Red-hot writer David Guggenheim is in early talks to pen the Bad Boys 3 script, coming off the $200M success of Safe House. Wondering if previous Bad Boys director Michael Bay will return now that he's wrapped up on Transformers: Age of Extinction? Not likely, as Deadline says he isn't involved with the project at this point.  Paging Peter Berg, the perfect film for you may have an opening!

Sony has nothing without Lawrence and Smith reprising their roles as fast-talkin' fast-shootin' cops Marcus Burnett and Mike Lowery, so they've already begun the process of trying to get them back.
