Although it was one of last year's most acclaimed dramas, we only heard Denis Villeneuve's Prisoners mentioned once during the Oscar nominations. While that's disappointing, the film's success critically and at the box office means we'll be seeing a lot more of him behind the camera, and he's just added a new project to his calendar.
THR reports Villeneuve will direct The Story of Your Life, based on the sci-fi short story by Hugo Award-winner Ted Chiang. Eric Heisserer (The Thing) will adapt the story which "is set in motion when alien crafts land around the world and an expert linguist is recruited by the military to determine whether they come in peace or are a threat. As she learns to communicate with the aliens, she begins experiencing vivid flashbacks that become the key to unlocking the greater mystery about the true purpose of their visit."
So basically it's Mars Attacks meets Contact, kindof? Could be interesting, although Heisserer could be a cause for some concern. If everything falls into place, filming could begin later this year.
