Child of God, the latest and largest directorial effort from James Franco has been surrounded by buzz, both good and bad, since it first started it's run around the festival circuit last year. Travis caught it at the Virginia Film Festival and you can get his full rundown right here. I should really learn from past experience that an awesome trailer does not a good movie make, but I'd be lying through my teeth if I told you that I didn't want to buy a ticket the second this trailer ended. That being said, the trailer doesn't really jive with what I've heard of the movie's plot. The film is, according to Travis and some other folks I've talked to, an extremely dark and disturbing story about a man who grew up almost totally disconnected and isolated from society to the point where he fits the "raised by wolves" stereotype and later turns on society when he's forced to confront it/us. The trailer paints a picture of a disturbed man, no doubt there, but it seems almost like a serial killer style horror movie...if the seedier parts of the movie remain when it is released to the public they may be in for quite a shock.
