Josh Boone in Talks to Direct Stephen King's 'The Stand'
Warner Bros. has been fighting with all they're worth to bring Stephen King's The Stand to the big screen, but they've been having trouble finding a director. David Yates, Ben Affleck, and most recently Scott Cooper have been attached to the project only to drop out soon after. Now another director entered the picture, and it's one King thought enough of to make a cameo in his debut feature.
The Wrap reports fast-rising The Fault in Our Stars director Josh Boone is in talks to take over The Stand, with plans for him to write and helm. King made a brief appearance in Boone's writer romance, Stuck in Love, and obviously the two must have hit it off. What had begun as a massive trilogy has now been reduced to a single R-rated film, a task which could prove daunting. The Stand tells the epic story of the world after a biological weapon causes the apocalypse, when the few remaining survivors become embroiled in a battle of good vs. evil. It was adapted into a miniseries in 1994, and that would be a much better avenue than trying to cram such a huge story into one movie.
This would be a huge step up for Boone but a step down for Warner Bros. in terms of star power. While early buzz on The Fault in Our Stars has been strong, one can hardly look at Boone as a known commodity.
