One of the cool things about superhero movies, especially those from Marvel, is that the smaller supporting roles hold a lot of weight because they could lead to something bigger. Many of these supporting characters turn out to be well-known Marvel heroes, which is why big names are typically brought in to play them. With Avengers: Age of Ultron gearing up to shoot in South Korea next month, Korean actress Kim Soo Hyun has come aboard in what is described as a "substantial supporting role".
Soo Hyun, who also goes by the name Claudia Kim, took to Twitter to confirm news of her casting...
“After a long wait, I’m so happy to be back with great news. I have a lot to do ahead of me, but for now, the words ‘Welcome to the Marvel Universe’ are amazing and kind of overwhelming. I was a fan of Marvel Comics, and if you really like something it looks like fate can make it happen.”
The character she's portraying is being kept a mystery for now, with a rep for the film saying “Marvel always prohibits telling too much about the story. Her character is already decided and the scene is already written so we cast Kim Soo Hyun, but we can’t let you know about her character. We only can say that her character is a substantial supporting role.”
Some unconfirmed rumors have her pegged as Tony Stark's doctor with ties to the creation of Ultron. Sounds a lot like the meager role Iron Man 3 afforded to Chinese actress Fan Bingbing, but maybe all of this secrecy surrounding Soo Hyun's role is for a reason. This will be her first feature film role after appearing in a number of TV series. [CBM]
