Bryan Singer Teases Gambit and Nightcrawler for 'X-men: Apocalypse'

Two of the most popular X-men may be returning to the silver screen if Bryan Singer has his way. X-men: Days of Future Past arrives this summer, but we already know X-men: Apocalypse is next in 2016. At this early stage we don't know which of the many mutants Singer plans to focus on, however in a conversation with Cine Premiere he indicated Gambit and Nightcrawler could be coming back. Here are his words, translated from Spanish...

"I'm considering Gambit and potentially a young Nightcrawler for 'Apocalypse. I was going to have Nightcrawler [in 'Days of Future Past'] and even wrote a scene, but I felt that we were forcing too many mutants into the story."

Remy Lebeau, aka Gambit, was last played by Taylor Kitsch in the forgettable X-men Origins: Wolverine, and he did a decent enough job as the "ragin' Cajun" despite the awful script. Alan Cumming portrayed Nightcrawler in X-2 and did not return for X-men: The Last Stand.

Singer recently spoke about introducing younger versions of familiar characters, and this may have been what he was referring to. X-men: Apocalypse is set to open May 27th 2016.
