Interview: Jason Bateman Talks His Directorial Debut, 'Bad Words'
It's no more Mr. Nice Guy for Jason Bateman, but in truth it hasn't been that way in quite awhile. The Arrested Development star has found his niche in R-rated comedies of late, scoring major hits with Horrible Bosses and Identity Thief, and it's a genre he wants to stick with as he enters the next phase of his career. Bateman's made the move to directing with his debut feature, the wildly-inappropriate comedy Bad Words, about a middle-aged school drop out who forces his way into 8th-grade spelling bee competitions.
I had a chance to sit down and talk with Bateman about the challenges of directing Bad Words, his appreciation for edgier material, and whether acting remains a part of his future. You can check out that interview below, and then go see Bad Words when it opens March 21st.
