John Hillcoat Adds Anthony Mackie to Incredible 'Triple Nine' Cast

For years Anthony Mackie has been an actor deserving of greater attention, and it seemed like whatever he did it just wasn't happening. Terrific performances in She Hate Me, Half Nelson, and others didn't make him a household name, but when he co-starred opposite Jeremy Renner in The Hurt Locker that was when things started to change. Now he's not only one of the busiest actors around, he's got a cushy gig in the Marvel Universe as Falcon, appearing in next month's Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Not bad, and it may be getting better as he's eying a role in John Hillcoat's incredibly-cast Triple Nine.

Variety reports Mackie is in talks to join Casey Affleck, Woody Harrelson, Michael B. Jordan, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Kate Winslet, Gal Gadot, Teresa Palmer, Aaron Paul, and Michael Pena in the crime flick, making for a cast that should have Oscars handicappers placing some early wagers on its success. Penned by Matt Cook, the story centers on a group of corrupt cops who plan to kill an unsuspecting cop, a '999' in police code, to distract the police from a heist they are committing in another location. Mackie's role is unclear, but seriously, does it matter amongst that group of co-stars?

Filming on Triple Nine begins this summer.
