Ridley Scott's 'Exodus' Gets Title Change; Producing Thriller 'A Better Place'
In case you haven't noticed, movies based on the Bible are big business again. Proving there's no such thing as bad press, Noah opened to $95M worldwide; the faith-based film God's Not Dead (starring Dean Cain and Kevin Sorbo!?!) has grossed $22M in two weeks driven by religious groups; and let's not forget Son of God which is nearing $60M. Ridley Scott will be getting in on the holy action later this year with his Moses movie, Exodus, and to prove how big it is even the title is expanding.
According to Hitfix, the star-studded film will now be titled Exodus: Gods and Kings, and it's a popular subtitle considering Steven Spielberg and Ang Lee were circling a similar film of that name some months ago. Christian Bale stars as Moses, with Joel Edgerton, Sigourney Weaver, John Turturro, Aaron Paul, and Ben Kingsley co-starring in the story chronicling how Moses led the Israelites out of Egypt. Expect the parting of the Red Sea, the receiving of the Ten Commandments on Mt. Sinai, and so forth.
Meanwhile, Scott is also set to produce A Better Place, a "gritty thriller" from screenwriter Brad Inglesby. Scott was a producer on last year's revenge movie, Out of the Furnace, which Inglesby wrote and had Bale in the leading role. No other plot details are available just yet, and we may not know more until a director is found. Would anyone be surprised if Scott does it himself?
