Ridley Scott to Produce 'Halo' Digital Film for Microsoft
Long before this blog ever went live, talks have been going on about a movie based on Microsoft's Halo video games. Ridley Scott has been associated with it for many of those years, and while we've seen other Halo adaptations surface, the feature film never came together. That's all about to change now, but it won't be happening on the big screen.
The Wrap reports that a live-action Halo "digital feature project" is in the works at Microsoft, developed by 343 Industries, Xbox Entertainment Studios, and Ridley Scott’s Scott Free Productions. Scott will exec-produce alongside David Zucker. Sergio Mimica-Gezzan, a frequent Steven Spielberg collaborator, will direct with Paul Scheuring (Prison Break) providing the script.
Just how the human/Covenant war will play into the story is unclear, but we know it will be set in the 26th century and follow a “surgically-enhanced super soldier who is not Master Chief”. As for the format, it will possibly resemble the Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn web series put together by Machinima. The plan is for this to be in addition to the premium Halo television series Spielberg is exec-producing for Xbox One. Presumably this Halo project would debut on the gaming console, as well.
The plan is to have this new Halo film ready by the end of 2014. Personally, I have little interest in a Halo movie without Master Chief and Cortana so it's going to take some pretty big names to get my attention.
