Helen Mirren Serves Up French Cuisine in Trailer for 'The Hundred-Foot Journey'

If Meryl Streep can have her cooking movie in Julie & Julia, then it's only fair that Helen Mirren get her shot to serve up a few dishes. Mirren stars in The Hundred-Foot Journey, which has a creative pedigree deserving of a Michelin star. Steven Knight adapted Richard C. Morais' best-selling novel for Lasse Hallstrom to direct. Hallstrom knows a thing or two about photographing food as the director of Chocolat. But most notably the film comes with the powerhouse support of Oprah Winfrey and Steven Spielberg as producers. How all of these ingredients come together can be seen in the newly released trailer.

Mirren stars as as Madame Mallory, who runs a Michelin-starred French restaurant that has served some of the most powerful heads of state. But she sees her comfy position threatened when an Indian family opens up Maison Mumbai across the street. A showdown ensues between Mallory and the Hadan family's patriarch (Om Puri), while his son (Manish Dayal) envisions bringing both cultures together.

Movies about food tend to be a little sappy and this looks no different. The Hundred-Foot Journey opens up shop on August 8th.
