James Franco Rips 'Spring Breakers 2' Again as First Poster Debuts

James Franco REALLY hates the idea of a Spring Breakers sequel, or at least one that doesn't have the involvement or consent of Harmony Korine. He even got back into character as Alien to express his disgust (in typically weird Franco fashion) for the film, titled Spring Breakers: The Second Coming, which will be directed by Jonas Akerlund from an Irvine Welsh screenplay. And while Franco can get all up in arms over it, the fact is the film is being sold at Cannes right now, and that is where the first poster was spotted in the wild.

The plan is to try and mix new characters in with some returnees, but frankly there doesn't seem to be a lot of interest from the prior cast. Least of all is Franco, who took to Instagram again and released this statement:

"This is not being done with Harmony Korine or my consent. The original was wholly Harmony’s creation and these producers are capitalizing on that innovative film to make money on a weak sequel. I want everyone to know that whoever is involved in the sequel is jumping on board a poison ship. It will be a terrible film, with a horrible reason d’ĂȘtre: to make money off someone else’s creativity. Can you imagine someone making the sequel to “Taxi Driver” without Scorsese and De Niro’s consents? Insanity! I’m speaking up for Harmony and his original vision and for any creative person who cares about preserving artistic integrity."

Kind of hard to argue with him about the producers making a cash grab, but the truth is sequels are done all of the time that have nothing to do with the original creators. We may not like it, but that is the reality. Chances are this will go straight-to-DVD anyway, right?
