The headline of this story probably won't come as much of a surprise since every studio wants Tom Hardy and Benedict Cumberbatch for everything if they can get them. Maybe since Marvel has already lost fan-favorite director Edgar Wright on Ant-Man, and flailing in efforts to replace him, they've decided to target fanboy darlings Hardy and Cumberbatch for Doctor Strange as a means of making amends.
Deadline has the news, saying both men are on Marvel's cast list to play the Sorcerer Supreme Stephen Strange, which earlier this week landed Scott Derrickson (Sinister) as director of Thomas Donnelly's screenplay. Hardy comes with obvious comic book cred for playing Bane in The Dark Knight Rises, while Cumberbatch could bring a few Star Trek and Sherlock fans along with him.
There are apparently others Marvel is considering, but whether that includes the previously-rumored Jared Leto remains to be seen.
